Ashwood Garage Electrical Upgrade with New EV Charger Installation

A Clean, Safe and Future-Ready Setup for an Electric Vehicle Home

Future-proofing your home doesn’t always mean a major renovation. Sometimes it’s as simple as upgrading the heart of your home’s power: your switchboard, cabling and dedicated circuits.

This week our team were in Ashwood completing a full electrical upgrade for a homeowner preparing for an electric vehicle and wanting cleaner, safer and more reliable power in their garage.

🔌 Upgrading the power supply to the garage

We installed a brand-new, heavy-duty power feed (submain) from the main switchboard to the garage. Where possible, we used the existing underground conduit, and where it was blocked, we excavated a fresh path to ensure everything was safely protected and fully compliant.

📘 New recessed garage switchboard

To support the new loads and improve safety, we installed a recessed 12-pole switchboard in the garage. This included modern circuit protection using a UniLine 40A MCB for the submain and RCBOs for individual circuits.
The result? A neat, modern and easy-to-access switchboard that keeps the garage tidy and up to current standards.

🚗 Dedicated EV charger circuit installed

With electric vehicles becoming more common, having a dedicated circuit is crucial for safety and performance.
We installed a new 32-amp single-phase EV charger circuit, complete with all cabling, terminations and an IP66 weather-rated isolator next to the charger.
The charger was mounted on the right side of the garage as per the plans, keeping it accessible and convenient.

🔒 Safety upgrades to existing wiring

We also upgraded an older 2.5mm² circuit in the garage to modern RCBO protection. This gives the homeowner improved electrical safety and peace of mind.

🧪 Testing, compliance & certification

Everything was tested and commissioned to AS/NZS 3000:2018 standards. The client received a Certificate of Electrical Safety, which is standard practice for our installations.

📱 Smart home comfort upgrade

To finish off the project, we installed and connected a Samsung WiFi controller to the existing ducted air conditioning system.
This upgrade lets the homeowners control their heating and cooling from their phone — perfect for arriving home to the ideal temperature.
