Feature Wall Light Installation in Eltham
When a Simple Light Replacement Requires a Custom Installation Solution
Replacing an existing light fitting can sound like a straightforward electrical job, but differences in the size, shape and mounting requirements of a new fitting can sometimes make the installation a little more involved.
The Cable & Connect team recently completed a feature wall light installation in Eltham, replacing an existing fitting with a striking client-supplied statement light.
The new fitting completely changed the look of the space, but there was a challenge to overcome before we could achieve the finished result.
Replacing an Existing Wall Light in Eltham
Our electrician attended the Eltham property to remove the existing wall light and install the client's new feature fitting.
Once the original fitting was removed, we found that the new wall light had a smaller mounting footprint than the fitting it was replacing.
Installing it directly over the existing position would have left the previous mounting holes exposed around the new light, resulting in an unfinished appearance.
Rather than simply installing the fitting and leaving the existing holes visible, the mounting arrangement was adapted to suit the new light.
This allowed us to:
• Cover the existing mounting points
• Create a solid and secure fixing point
• Position the new fitting correctly
• Allow the fitting to sit neatly and flush
• Achieve a much cleaner finished installation
Once installation was complete, the new wall light was tested and confirmed to be operating correctly.
The Details Matter When Replacing Light Fittings
Changing a light fitting isn't always a perfect like-for-like replacement.
Modern feature lights, pendants and wall lights can have completely different mounting plates, dimensions and fixing requirements compared with older fittings.
This can become particularly noticeable when the new fitting is smaller than the one being removed.
Depending on the existing installation and the new product, additional work may be required to achieve a neat and secure result.
It's one of the reasons we recommend having replacement and feature lighting installed by a qualified electrician who can assess both the electrical requirements and the practical mounting requirements of the new fitting.
Using Client-Supplied Feature Lighting
Already found the perfect light for your home?
Cable & Connect can install client-supplied lighting, provided the fitting is suitable and compliant for the intended installation.
Feature lighting is a great way to add personality to a room and can completely change the way a space looks and feels.
Our team can assist with the installation of:
• Feature wall lights
• Pendant lighting
• Decorative light fittings
• LED lighting
• Replacement ceiling lights
• Exterior lighting
• Smart lighting
• Lighting upgrades and alterations
Where an existing fitting is being replaced, we'll assess the mounting location and existing electrical installation to determine what's required for the new light.
Problem Solving Is Part of a Good Installation
Not every electrical installation goes exactly as expected once an existing fitting is removed.
Behind an old light there may be previous fixing holes, different mounting arrangements or other conditions that weren't visible beforehand.
For this Eltham installation, adapting the mounting arrangement meant the new feature light could be securely installed while also covering the evidence left behind by the previous fitting.
It's a relatively small detail, but one that makes a significant difference to the finished appearance.
For us, completing the electrical connection is only part of the job. We also want the finished installation to look like it belongs in the space.
