We recently completed a smart home upgrade in Montmorency, installing a Ubiquiti UniFi G6 Pro Doorbell, smart lighting controls and additional electrical improvements to enhance both convenience and security.
UniFi G6 Pro Doorbell Installation
The centrepiece of this project was the installation of a client-supplied Ubiquiti UniFi G6 Pro Doorbell at the home's front entrance.
To ensure a reliable network connection, we installed a new CAT6 data cable from the front entry back to the upstairs network switch. The cable was professionally terminated with RJ45 connectors before being fully tested to verify correct pin configuration, continuity and network performance.
A professionally installed data cable provides a far more stable and dependable connection than relying solely on WiFi, allowing the UniFi Protect ecosystem to perform at its best.
Integrating the Existing Door Chime
One of the client's requirements was retaining their existing mechanical door chime rather than replacing it with a dedicated UniFi chime.
To achieve this, we installed a Shelly PUK relay module within the switchboard and modified the existing wiring configuration. This allowed the new UniFi doorbell to communicate correctly with the home's original mechanical chime while maintaining full smart functionality.
The completed system provides the convenience of modern video doorbell technology without sacrificing the familiar indoor chime.
Smart Lighting Automation
As part of the home's automation upgrade, we also installed five Shelly lighting relay modules across nominated lighting circuits.
Shelly relays provide homeowners with greater control over their lighting, allowing integration with smart home platforms, scheduling, automation routines and remote control via smartphone.
These compact modules are an excellent way to modernise existing lighting without replacing switches or carrying out major renovations.
Additional Electrical Improvements
Alongside the smart home installation, our electricians completed several additional electrical upgrades, including:
Installation of a new double 10A switched power point
Replacement of a faulty push-button switch mechanism
Testing and commissioning of all electrical and data installations
Issuing a Certificate of Compliance upon completion
Every installation was completed in accordance with AS/NZS 3000:2018 to ensure the system is safe, compliant and ready for everyday use.
