The Problem – Slow Internet & Poor WiFi Coverage

The client in Watsonia was experiencing slow internet speeds and unreliable WiFi throughout their home. Their setup was still running on FTTN (Fibre to the Node), with the modem located at the back of the property.

This resulted in:

• Weak signal strength at the front of the home

• Frequent dropouts

• Poor performance across multiple devices

With more devices connected than ever, the existing setup simply wasn’t keeping up.

Upgrading from FTTN to FTTP

We assisted the client in upgrading their connection to FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), significantly improving their internet capability.

Once NBN completed the external connection to the Network Termination Device (NTD), we installed fibre from the outside box to a new internal connection point in a central hallway cupboard.

The fibre was:

• Routed neatly via the eaves

• Protected in corrugated conduit where exposed

• Installed with additional slack for future flexibility

Centralising the Home Network

To improve overall performance, we relocated the modem from the back of the house to a central hallway cupboard.

This created a clean and practical network hub that:

• Keeps equipment out of sight

• Improves signal distribution

• Allows for better cable management and future upgrades

Installing High-Performance WiFi Access Points

To eliminate WiFi dead zones, we installed two Ubiquiti UniFi U7 Pro ceiling-mounted wireless access points.

• One positioned at the front of the home

• One positioned at the rear

This setup ensures strong, consistent coverage across the entire property, regardless of where devices are being used.

Structured Cabling & Network Setup

We installed Cat6 structured cabling throughout the home, all terminating back to the hallway cupboard.

We also supplied and installed a 6-port PoE switch to power the access points and support connected devices.

All systems were:

• Fully configured

• Tested for performance

• Commissioned to ensure optimal coverage and reliability

• A full FTTP fibre internet connection
