Why Professional Network Testing Matters: Data Cabling Fault Finding in Brunswick

Professional Network Testing & Data Cabling Fault Finding in Brunswick

Using the Fluke LinkIQ Duo to Diagnose and Repair Ethernet Network Faults

When an Ethernet outlet stops working, it's easy to assume the cable needs replacing. In reality, many network issues can be caused by incorrect terminations, damaged connections or wiring faults that aren't visible to the naked eye.

At Cable & Connect, we invest in professional network testing equipment so we can accurately diagnose faults before recommending repairs or replacements.

Recently, our team attended a residential property in Brunswick to investigate several existing Cat6 data outlets that were no longer operating correctly. Rather than relying on guesswork, we used our Fluke LinkIQ Duo and cable tracing equipment to identify the exact cause of the problem.

Diagnosing Data Cabling Faults

Our first step was to inspect each Ethernet outlet and trace every cable back to its termination point.

Using the Fluke LinkIQ Duo, we tested the existing Cat6 cabling to verify:

  • Cable length

  • Wire map and pair configuration

  • Continuity

  • Incorrect pin-outs

  • Termination faults

  • Overall cable performance

The testing quickly identified several outlets that had been terminated incorrectly, resulting in unreliable network connections.

By using professional diagnostic equipment, we were able to pinpoint the faults without replacing perfectly serviceable cabling, saving both time and unnecessary costs.

Re-Termination & Network Verification

Once the faults had been identified, our technicians re-terminated the affected RJ45 outlets to the T568B wiring standard, ensuring each outlet was correctly wired and securely terminated.

Every outlet was then re-tested using the Fluke LinkIQ Duo to confirm the repairs had been successful.

The before-and-after testing clearly demonstrated the value of professional network certification—turning failed wire-map results into compliant, fully functioning Ethernet outlets.

Additional Electrical Upgrades

While on site, the client also requested additional kitchen power outlets.

Our team supplied and installed:

  • Three new matte black double power points

  • New concealed cabling within the cabinetry

  • Neat ducting where required to maintain a clean finish

As with all electrical work completed by Cable & Connect, the installation was fully tested and commissioned in accordance with AS/NZS 3000:2018, with a Certificate of Compliance issued upon completion.

Why Professional Testing Equipment Makes a Difference

Professional testing equipment doesn't just confirm whether a cable works—it identifies exactly why it isn't working.

By using advanced network testing tools like the Fluke LinkIQ Duo, we're able to:

  • Accurately diagnose network faults

  • Identify incorrect terminations

  • Verify Cat5e and Cat6 cabling performance

  • Reduce unnecessary cable replacements

  • Speed up fault finding

  • Provide confidence that repaired outlets are operating correctly

Whether you're experiencing unreliable Ethernet connections, slow network performance or completely non-functioning data outlets, professional testing ensures the issue is diagnosed correctly the first time.
