Connecting CCTV, Alarm, Intercom, Data and Electrical Infrastructure Across a Large Mornington Peninsula Property
One Property, A Lot Going On
For Day 9 of our 10 Years of Cable & Connect countdown, we're jumping forward to 2025 and a substantial project completed in Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula.
Across several stages of work, Cable & Connect completed electrical, communications and security installation works throughout the property, including the residence, garage/shed, entrance and external areas.
It was the kind of project that demonstrated exactly what Cable & Connect had evolved into over almost a decade.
Rather than treating electrical, data and security as completely separate systems, we could bring the different infrastructure together as part of one coordinated installation.
CCTV & Alarm Infrastructure Across the Property
A comprehensive CCTV and alarm installation formed a major part of the project.
Working with equipment supplied by Wilson Security, Cable & Connect provided the required cabling and labour for the security installation.
The works incorporated Bosch Solution 6000 alarm systems, wireless security devices and CCTV infrastructure using Hanwha Wave cameras.
Coverage extended across multiple areas of the property, including the residence and garage, with external camera locations designed to provide broader surveillance of the site.
The project also incorporated communications infrastructure to support the security equipment and connectivity between different parts of the property.
Getting Services Out to the Shed
One of the more substantial parts of the project was extending electrical and communications infrastructure to the shed.
This involved trenching and more than 70 metres of cable runs to get the required services where they needed to go.
Works to the shed included:
New electrical and communications cabling
Installation of a sub-board
Three general purpose outlets, with one servicing each bay
Three batten lights
External power for the water tank
Security camera infrastructure
Electrical and communications cabinet
Communications equipment and associated cabling
For a property of this size, getting the infrastructure right was just as important as the equipment ultimately connected to it.
CCTV Beyond the Main Buildings
The security installation wasn't limited to the house and shed.
The project also incorporated external camera locations, including camera infrastructure positioned away from the main residence.
Communications links allowed these areas to connect back into the property's wider security network, helping provide coverage across a much larger area than would be possible from cameras mounted solely on the buildings.
Gate Intercom Upgrade
A later stage of the Red Hill project involved replacing the existing front gate intercom.
The original unit was removed and the gate post modified to accommodate the replacement intercom.
The new unit was then installed and wired into the gate, with an interface module fitted at the property's main equipment rack.
Assistance was also provided with configuration of the intercom accounts and settings.
It's one of those relatively small pieces of equipment that relies on quite a bit happening behind the scenes.
The Part You Don't See
Some of our favourite photos from this project aren't actually the cameras or intercom.
They're the equipment cabinets.
Behind a security system like this sits the cabling, communications hardware, power supplies, control equipment and network infrastructure required to make everything communicate.
Good security and communications installations aren't just about what you can see mounted on the outside of a building.
They're also about what's happening behind the scenes.
And after almost 10 years working across electrical, AV, data, communications and security, that's an area Cable & Connect became particularly familiar with.
Almost 10 Years of Cable & Connect
Looking back at this 2025 project compared with some of the jobs from the early years really shows how far Cable & Connect had come.
What began with electrical, AV and technology installations had grown into projects bringing together multiple systems across homes, commercial spaces and large properties.
From the first projects in our countdown to an integrated installation like Red Hill, there's been plenty of learning, problem solving and kilometres of cable along the way.
And now there's only one project left before we officially celebrate:
