Updating an Existing ELAN Control System in Gowanbrae

Integrated control systems can remain in service for many years, but as hardware and software age, individual components may eventually require replacement or updating.

Cable & Connect recently attended a retirement living property in Gowanbrae to carry out an upgrade to an existing ELAN automation system.

The project involved replacing the existing wall-mounted control touchscreen while also completing the system work required behind the scenes to ensure the new hardware could operate correctly with the property's existing ELAN infrastructure.

Replacement ELAN Touchscreen

Our technicians installed and configured a replacement touchscreen, restoring a dedicated wall-mounted interface for the system.

Unlike replacing a conventional electrical accessory, integrated automation equipment often requires programming and configuration alongside the physical installation.

The existing ELAN SC300 control system also underwent a major update to support the replacement equipment and updated configuration platform.

Once completed, the touchscreen and control system were configured, tested and commissioned.

A Customised Protective Solution

This particular installation also required an additional consideration.

Because the touchscreen is located within a retirement living environment, the client required a way of reducing unintended interaction with the controls.

Cable & Connect modified and installed a clear protective enclosure around the touchscreen. The finished solution keeps the control interface visible while restricting casual access to the screen.

It's a good example of how AV and automation work isn't always about simply installing equipment. Sometimes the right solution requires adapting the installation to suit the way a particular property is actually used.
