How AV Technology Helped Businesses Adapt During Melbourne's Lockdowns
Another Year of Doing Things Differently
By 2021, Melbourne businesses had become very familiar with adapting.
Lockdowns and restrictions continued to affect the way organisations operated, and businesses that traditionally relied on face-to-face interaction needed new ways to connect with their customers.
For one Melbourne gym, that meant finding a way to continue delivering fitness classes remotely.
Cable & Connect was brought in to create the AV setup to make it happen.
Creating an AV Setup for Remote Fitness Classes
Delivering a fitness class remotely is different from simply joining a video meeting.
The instructor needs enough space to move naturally while remaining visible to participants, and the technology needs to allow the team to see and interact with the people joining remotely.
The solution included a large wall-mounted display with a dedicated camera positioned above the screen, creating a central video setup within the gym.
Behind the scenes, the required cabling and connections were installed to bring the system together while maintaining a clean finished installation.
Once completed, the gym had a dedicated setup that could be used to connect with members and deliver classes remotely.
From Empty Wall to Connected Training Space
Looking back through the installation photos six years later is also a great reminder of what goes into creating a finished AV system.
Before the television, camera and equipment were installed, our team prepared the wall, installed the mounting hardware and ran the necessary cabling.
The completed installation transformed what had previously been a blank section of wall into a dedicated communication point for the gym.
The display allowed instructors to see participants joining remotely, while the camera provided the video connection from inside the training space.
AV Became About More Than Meetings
Our Day 5 story looked back at the video conferencing systems we designed and built in 2020 as organisations suddenly needed teams to communicate across different locations.
By 2021, that same technology was being used in increasingly creative ways.
Video conferencing wasn't only keeping office teams connected.
Gyms were running remote workouts. Trainers were coaching clients from a distance. Businesses were delivering services online that historically depended almost entirely on people being physically present.
For the AV industry, it was a period where technology became an incredibly important part of helping businesses adapt.
Commercial AV Designed Around the Way You Work
While lockdowns thankfully aren't driving these installations anymore, the idea behind this project is just as relevant today.
Good commercial AV starts with understanding what a business actually needs to accomplish.
That might be:

This project takes us back to 2021, another memorable chapter in Cable & Connect's 10-year history.
It was a challenging period for businesses across Melbourne, but it also produced some incredibly creative uses of technology.
For this gym, AV provided a way to keep instructors and members connected even when they couldn't all be training together in the same room.
And for us, it's another project that forms part of the Cable & Connect story we're celebrating today.
